Pieter Baas works closely together with Elisabeth A. Wheeler (North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA). Jointly they edit the IAWA Journal of the International Association of Wood Anatomists (www.iawa-website.org). The NHN data and illustrations on wood anatomy are integrated in the InsideWood database, a web-based facility to interactively identify woods with microscopic features.
Currently he also holds positions as Chairman of the SNP (Foundation for the National Plant Collection in 20 Botanical Gardens in the Netherlands) and of the Biodiversity Platform of the Netherlands. He is Secretary of the Treub Society for the Advancement of Research in the Tropics, and holds a number of positions in the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) to which he was elected a Fellow in 2000.
